Tomorrow is Election Day! Voting is a powerful way to make your voice heard. The people we elect make choices that affect our daily lives. This includes our health care, education, and support services. When you vote, you shape what happens in your community and our country. Every vote counts. Your voice matters.
In this video, James talks to us from Washington, DC. He tells why it’s important to vote. He shares that everyone’s voice should be heard.

Why Some People Don’t Vote
Not everyone votes. There are many reasons why they don’t. Some people feel unsure. Some think their vote doesn’t count. But every person has the right to vote. Everyone has the right to be part of the decisions that affect their lives.
Some people don’t vote because:
- They think they can’t.
- They don’t know where or how to vote.
- Someone told them they couldn’t vote.
- They don’t have a ride to the polling place. (Remember, you have the right to get a ride to go vote!)
Why It’s Important to Vote
Your vote helps make change happen. Voting is a way to speak up about what matters most to you. You can also speak up for your family and your community.
Sometimes people vote because they want things, like Medicaid or help getting food. Sometimes people vote for people they like. They believe the people they vote for will make good decisions.
The people we elect make choices that shape how we live. Some things are happening now because of who was elected. For example:
- Government shutdowns, which make it hard to get food assistance and other help
- Cuts to Medicaid, which make it hard for people to live in their communities
- Firing special education staff, which hurts students who might need extra help to succeed at school
Do you feel like you are well represented? If not, make your voice heard by voting. It’s important to know the issues and the people who represent you. It’s important to make a plan to vote.
Make a Plan to Vote
Planning ahead makes voting easier. It’s less stressful. When you know what to do, you can feel confident that your vote will count. Here are some simple steps to make your plan:
- Learn about the people and issues on the ballot.
- Find your polling place and check what time it opens.
- Bring your ID, if it’s required.
- Ask for help and transportation, if you need it.
- Go vote!
