Three self-advocates using free back-to-school resources on desktop computers

Free Back-to-School Tools for Teaching Self-Advocates

It’s time for a new school year! We’re sharing free back-to-school resources for self-advocates and teachers. Our courses build skills like teamwork and leadership. Self-advocates can take them online at their own pace. We also have group learning guides. They are great for anyone teaching groups of learners. And our printable games make learning fun!

Free Back-to-School Courses for Self-Advocates

We have two sets of free courses. They are made for and by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

  • Start Up! teaches the basics of participatory action research (PAR).
  • Level Up! builds on those basic courses. They teach ways to make work fair and safe for all people. They teach how to set limits and make your own choices.

These courses help self-advocates work on projects about their lives. Our group learning editions are great for teachers, program staff, and more. You can use the courses online at your own pace. You can use them one-on-one or with a group.

Free Back-to-School Games That Teach Important Skills

Learning should be fun too! We’ve created two free games that teach big ideas in simple ways:

  • Know Your Worth is a game about being paid for your work. Self-advocates learn that their time and ideas matter and should be respected.
  • Boosts and Barriers is a game about teamwork. It shows what helps a team (boosts) and what can get in the way (barriers).

These games are great for starting conversations, building skills, and making learning fun.

Let’s Learn Together

All of our tools are made to support people with IDD and the educators who work with them. These resources help learners grow their voice and build confidence. They help learners lead the way in research and teamwork.
